Southern Sloppy Joes

Ingredients:
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 small onion, finely diced
1/2 green bell pepper, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
3/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup tomato sauce
4 hamburger buns
2 tablespoons butter, softened

Instructions:
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.

Add the diced onion and green bell pepper to the skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

Season with salt, black pepper, and paprika. Stir in the brown sugar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and tomato sauce. Mix well until everything is combined.

Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick and saucy.

Lightly butter the inside of the hamburger buns and toast them in a skillet or oven until golden.

Spoon the hot meat mixture generously onto the bottom half of each bun and top with the other half.

Serve warm for a messy, sweet and savory Southern classic that’s perfect for family dinners or casual gatherings.
