Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup vegetable shortening (makes it super tender)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prep

  • Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).
  • Grease and flour a 10-inch bundt pan or tube pan.

2. Cream the fats

In a large bowl, beat together:

  • butter
  • shortening
  • sugar

Mix for 5–7 minutes until fluffy and pale. (This is key!)

3. Add eggs

Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.

4. Combine dry ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk:

  • flour
  • salt
  • baking powder

5. Add flour + milk alternately

Starting with flour and ending with flour:

  1. Add ⅓ of the flour mixture
  2. Add ½ of the milk
  3. Add another ⅓ of the flour
  4. Add remaining milk
  5. Finish with flour

Mix gently — don’t overbeat.

6. Add vanilla

Stir in vanilla until smooth.

7. Bake

Pour batter into greased pan.
Bake 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes
(or until a toothpick comes out clean).

8. Cool

Let cool 15 minutes in the pan, then turn out onto a rack.


✨ Optional Glaze (Highly Recommended)

Whisk together:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Drizzle over the warm cake.
