Old-Fashioned Potato Soup
Introduction
Old-Fashioned Potato Soup is a classic comfort food made with simple pantry ingredients. Creamy Potato, sautéed vegetables, and rich broth come together to create a warm, hearty soup that has been a family favorite for generations.
Ingredients
6 medium Potato, peeled and diced
1 small Onion, chopped
2 Celery stalks, chopped
2 tablespoons Butter
3 cups Chicken broth or vegetable broth
1 cup milk
½ cup Heavy cream (optional for extra richness)
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (for thickening)
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
Optional Additions
½ cup shredded Cheddar cheese
3 slices crispy bacon, crumbled
½ cup diced carrots
2 tablespoons sour cream
Instructions

  1. Cook the Vegetables
In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and celery and cook for 4–5 minutes until softened.
  2. Add Potatoes and Broth
Stir in the diced potatoes and pour in the chicken broth. Bring to a boil.
  3. Simmer
Reduce heat and simmer for 15–20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
  4. Thicken the Soup
In a small bowl, whisk the flour with a little milk to make a smooth mixture. Stir it into the soup.
  5. Add Milk and Cream
Pour in the remaining milk and cream. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring gently until the soup thickens.
  6. Season
Add salt, pepper, and parsley. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  7. Serve
Ladle the hot soup into bowls and add optional toppings like cheese or bacon.
    Tips for Success
Mash some of the potatoes in the pot for a thicker texture.
