Soft Homemade Sandwich Bread
🧾 Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- ¾ cup warm milk (110°F / 43°C)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp butter, softened
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp milk or melted butter (for brushing)
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Activate yeast
- Mix warm milk + sugar + yeast
- Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy
2. Make dough
- Add egg, butter, salt, and flour
- Mix until dough forms
- Knead 8–10 minutes (or 5 minutes with mixer) until soft and elastic
3. First rise
- Place dough in greased bowl
- Cover and rise 1 hour until doubled
4. Shape
- Punch down dough
- Shape into a loaf
- Place in greased 9×5 loaf pan
- Score top with a sharp knife (like the photo)
5. Second rise
- Cover and rise 30–40 minutes
6. Bake
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes
- Top should be deep golden
7. Finish
- Brush hot loaf with butter or milk for shine
- Cool before slicing
✨ Tips for Extra Soft Bread
- Replace half the milk with heavy cream for richer bread
- Add 1 tbsp honey instead of sugar
- Cover loosely with foil if browning too fast
