Amish Sour Cream Cornbread
Ingredients
1 cup cornmeal
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup milk
2 large eggs
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
1 tsp vanilla extract (optional, for a hint of sweetness)
Instructions
Preheat Oven
Preheat to 180°C (350°F).
Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or cast-iron skillet.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Mix Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, combine sour cream, milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla.
Combine
Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients.
Stir until just combined (don’t overmix).
Bake
Pour batter into prepared dish.
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool & Serve
Let cool slightly before slicing.
Serve warm with butter, honey, or jam
