Black Forest Cake


A timeless classic — rich chocolate cake, juicy cherries, and fluffy cream.


🧾 Ingredients

🎂 Chocolate Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • 1½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar or 1 tsp vanilla extract

🍒 Cherry Filling

  • 2 cups cherries (fresh or canned)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ cup cherry juice

🤍 Whipped Cream

  • 2 cups cold heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 packet cream stiffener (optional)

🍫 Topping

  • Grated dark chocolate
  • Fresh cherries

👩‍🍳 Preparation

1️⃣ Chocolate Cake

  1. In a bowl, mix all dry ingredients.
  2. Add eggs, milk, and oil; mix well.
  3. Pour in hot water and whisk until smooth.
  4. Bake at 170°C (340°F) for 35–40 minutes.
  5. Let cool completely, then slice into 3 layers.

2️⃣ Cherry Filling

  • Cook cherries, sugar, cornstarch, and cherry juice over medium heat until thickened.
  • Remove from heat and let cool.

3️⃣ Whipped Cream

  • Whip cold cream with powdered sugar (and cream stiffener if using) until stiff peaks form.

4️⃣ Assemble the Cake

  1. Place one cake layer, spread cherry filling, then whipped cream.
  2. Repeat with remaining layers.
  3. Cover the top and sides with whipped cream.
  4. Decorate with chocolate shavings and fresh cherries 🍒🍫

  • Chill the cake for 2–3 hours before serving for best flavor.
  • Add a splash of kirsch or cherry syrup for an authentic touch.
